Iowan pilot, mechanic, and truck driver Duane Harlan Peterson and his Drifters—Eugene Meriwether, “Bunny” Bryson, Dick Pregler, Jim Klein, and Jerry Wathan—crossed the Mississippi River into Wisconsin for a single session in 1965. “I sent 25 copies to my brother-in-law in Orlando,” Peterson recalled. “I don’t know if he was just trying to make me feel good, but he said it made the top 25 there.”
